The ComfortChoice program is currently offered to Homeowners and small businesses through your local power company.
As part of the program, EMi thermostats are installed in homes and small businesses with central air conditioners or heat pumps.
Homeowners program their EMi to specify different temperature setpoints to compensate for times when homes will be unoccupied or unused. The thermostat also includes web-based control software, which allows Homeowners to remotely view or change home thermostat settings using any standard web browser. Programming over the Internet is also an option.
During times of unusually high electric demand, the power company can send out an Internet-based signal to a home's EMi thermostat and adjust the thermostat's temperature setpoint by a few degrees from the current setting, and then return it to the existing setting when the power emergency is over.
Homeowners are still in control of their thermostats and can override power company initiated curtailment events at any time locally at the thermostat or remotely via the web.
